Using the Configuration Tool

Follow the steps below to configure your Demeter device.

  1. Open the configuration page.
  2. Set the device location.
    • If browser GPS is enabled, your location will autofill.
    • Otherwise, enter the latitude and longitude manually.
    • You can also use the map to position the cursor precisely.
  3. Set the device time.
    • Select a custom time (for example, when you plan to power the device on).
    • Or click Now +30s to auto-fill.
    • Use +30s (round ↑ to min) to round up to the next full minute, making it easier to sync with a watch.
  4. Optional: Adjust the Bird Mode Sample Rate and Bat Mode Sample Rate.
    • Recommended: 48 kHz for birds, 384 kHz for bats.
    • Lower sample rates can be used to reduce battery consumption.
  5. Choose a recording mode. This allows recording in shorter bursts within a scheduled session, which can significantly improve battery life.
  6. Set the Trigger Sensitivity using the slider.
    • Lower values = higher sensitivity.
    • The default value on newer devices is 2500.
  7. Advanced options (optional):
    • Add a note to the GUANO metadata (useful for custom processing pipelines).
    • Change the trigger frequency from the default 20 kHz.
  8. Click Generate & Save Config to download the configuration JSON file.
  9. Copy the file to an SD card, or save it directly to the SD card if your system supports this.
  10. Insert the SD card into your Demeter device and press the button to power it on.
